When people think of trees, they generally think of large, majestic oaks that provide lots of shade. However, ornamental trees can be just as beautiful and they can usually be enjoyed all year round. Whether they are potted trees or more permanent fixtures, ornamental trees can add a lot of beauty to your garden.
Let’s start with ornamental trees that can be planted right into the ground. These trees are usually four to six feet in height and won’t get much bigger than that. If you’re looking for shade, these aren’t the best ones for the job. But, if you’re looking to add curb appeal, a few of these planted in strategic locations around your property can really increase the value of your home. Try placing one on either side of the walkway closest to your front door to create a frame. You can do the same thing at the entrance to your property to mirror this planting. Lining a walkway with ornamental trees is also very beautiful.
If you have limited outdoor space, or you want to enjoy your trees all year round, try planting a few potted trees. Tree roses are very popular for this use, especially the Rose of Sharon. They are quite beautiful and easy to take care of. You will need to bring them inside as soon as there is a hint of frost, but then you get to enjoy them all winter long. There are even varieties of fruit trees that can be brought in to provide you with fresh fruit all year round.
Flowering trees are always a benefit to any property. Whether it’s a pretty orange or cherry tree, or a rose tree, they add a much needed pop of color to your yard. Try a small maple tree if you don’t want the work of caring for a flowering tree.
