Building a Trellis
One of the nicest features for any home is a garden trellis. Whether you have a simple trellis, or an ornate one, they really add to your home’s curb appeal and make the property seem more inviting. There are several easy ways that you can add and decorate a trellis for your yard.
The easiest method is buying a pre-built terrace. Make sure to get one that is made out of quality materials that will not break or harm your plants. When you install it, if it will be in a permanent location, you may want to add a little cement to the holes in the ground to ensure that the structure won’t fall down. Otherwise, you can just plant it where you like. Trellises look very nice next to doorways if you don’t have a lot of space, or you can put one at the entrance to your garden.
If you have extra time and the skills, you can custom make your own trellis to match features on your house. You can also pay someone to custom make one to fit your specifications. These are the nicest trellises and will most likely last longer than the ones you can buy in stores. They do cost a lot more, but the overall effect is generally nicer.
Once your trellis is installed, you can begin adding climbing vines. Climbing roses are very popular and are generally easy to grow. They have a lovely fragrance and the blooms look very nice on a trellis. However, even a simple ivy can look wonderful on a trellis. It is a good idea to plant a perennial climber so you don’t have to keep redoing it every year. For some varieties, it may take as long as three years for the plant to completely cover the trellis.
