Lighting Your Garden

Now that you’ve gone to the trouble of planting your garden, it’s only right to show off all of your hard work. Landscape lighting is a great way to let the world know about your accomplishment and can really mean the difference between a nice garden and a great garden.

There are many different ways that you can economically add landscape lighting to your garden. The most common fixtures are solar lamps that can be placed anywhere without having to hard wire them. If you don’t have the money to hire an electrician or you just don’t want to go to the hassle of hard wiring your landscape lights, this is a very good alternative. Solar lights are usually inexpensive and come in a variety of different shades and shapes.

When selecting your landscape lighting fixtures, you will want to try to mirror the design of your house. For example, if your house is more modern, look for sleek lights that are made out of aluminum or black material. These will match your house design very well. If your house is a Craftsman or a Victorian, look for landscape lighting fixtures that mimic little street lamps. This will add a nice finishing touch to your garden.

When in doubt, simplicity is usually your best bet. Copper landscape lights are always popular, but keep in mind that over time they will develop a patina that will turn them green. If you want the look of copper without this problem, look for landscape lights that are painted or feature a protective coating.

Place your landscape lights in strategic points around your garden. Pay special attention to the corners and middle to create an effective dimension of your garden at night. Before you finish your installation, make sure that you see it at night to make sure you are happy with the results.
