How to choose a garden hose

So you have decided you need a new garden hose, but you're not sure what kind of garden hose you should get.  Maybe you should go to Wal-mart and buy the hose that you get every year and just be done with it, right? Wrong.  You could do that if you want to make a trip to buy another one next year.  But if you want to stop having to buy a hose every year, you should look at these hose buying tips.

First, look at the construction of the hose.  The better the quality of the hose, the longer it will last.  The hoses that have connectors made of brass last the longest.  They prevent water leaks the best and they won't rust or rot out like other hoses.  They also hold up well with day to day use.  You want to make sure that the hose that you buy has six inch kink guards.  These prolong the life of your hose by preventing it from kinking.

If you get a multi layered hose that is of high quality, you are going to get a longer life out of it than if you were to buy a hose for ten dollars.   Think of it this way – if you buy a hose that is of lesser quality and spend ten dollars on it, then have to replace it every year, or you could buy a good quality hose of say thirty dollars, and have it last for five years or more.    Even though you're spending more money initially you are saving money in the long run.

The other thing to consider when you are buying a hose is how it will be stored.  If you have a decent hose reel, you can get yourself a nice coiled hose.  But it has to be a hose of good quality in order to be able to use a hose reel.
