Ornamental Grasses
When you think of grass, typically the thought of endless mowing comes to mind. However, there are ornamental grasses that never need to be cut down and can add a great pop of color to your yard. These ornamental grasses are perfect for camouflaging areas of your yard or for adding a little extra color where you need it.
If you are going for concealment, look for a nice Pampas grass. These grasses grow very tall, but look more like plants. There are many different varieties, ranging from blue all the way to a pretty reddish color. They are very hardy and require little care. You can plant them around areas where you would like to stop mowing or around the boundaries of your yard. They are great to put in corners where lawn mowers typically have trouble reaching.
There are also ornamental grasses that will never grow beyond a certain set of inches. Now, if they would only come up with grasses for our yards that would do this. These shorter varieties are perfect for planting around boundaries, walkways and in between other flowers. If you have some bare spots in your flower garden, these grasses are perfect for filling in the gaps.
Ornamental grasses are available in many different varieties and colors. You can find beautiful pink plumes that will work perfectly with other soft colors or you can go dramatic with flame red grasses. Your options are pretty open, and your creativity can really take over. If you’re not quite ready for a burst of color, Miscanthus or Morning Light, is a beautiful ornamental grass that is green with just a hint of color at its tips. It is a little smaller and looks like a lovely spray of grass.
