Planting the Perfect Hedge

When most of us think of hedges, we think of boring old privets that just aren't very interesting and they are usually a lot of work to maintain. However, there are many different types of hedges that are now available and they can really increase your home's curb appeal.

One of the best new hedges on the market is known as the Robin Hood. This is a gorgeous hedge that will quickly grow to about five feet in height. You can prune it if you wish, but it looks best wild and wooly. The best part about this hedge are the lovely crimson roses that bloom from spring to fall. The scent is absolutely heavenly and the blooms are enormous. This really adds a needed pop of color to many yards and makes for a privacy fence that serves a dual purpose.

Barberry is another beautiful hedge plant that is gaining in popularity. It comes in a vibrant shade of purple and the flowers are absolutely adorable. There are many different varieties of this particular hedge, but most offer a form of purple blossoms. One of the prettiest varieties is called the Rosy Glow. Its blossoms are purple tipped with a rosy pink.

If you want a little red in your garden, the Burning Bush is probably one of the easiest hedges to care for. Its gorgeous red color will come out in the fall, and it is a very hardy plant. In spring and summer, its rich green foliage enhances any garden. Winter is probably the best month for this hedge, as its uniquely shaped branches hold snow and make a beautiful winter picture. Little rabbits and mice appreciate this plant as well, since it provides them with necessary nutrition during the winter months.
