Avoiding Back Injuries from Yard Care
Taking care of the yard can be a lot of hard work, and it can be especially taxing on the body. When working in the yard, it is important that there is a great deal of care that is taken in order to prevent injuries while doing yard work. These steps will ensure that the yard work can be accomplished, and that there will be no harm done to the back.
For those that will be working in the yard for an extended period of time, it is good to take a break from time to time to take a stretch. This will help to relax the muscles. Stretching the arms high above the head and then reaching down slowly for a toe touch can be beneficial to stretching the muscles in the back. There can also be leg stretches that can be completed in order to keep the muscles warm and moving, and not being hardened from sitting still. The less active that someone is, the higher the chances are that they can become susceptible to an injury. Also, it is important to bend at the knees and not at the waist. This is a large factor that many people do not take into consideration, as they will often overextend their muscles in their back, causing the back pain. Most important step to remember is to not over do anything. When feeling fatigued, it is best to stop, and then resume the yard work later.
